- Content Management
- New fields have been added to the Knowledge Library Index controlled through the firm libraries. Each note in the firm library can be updated with controls for:
- Marking new notes and providing a date selection for when the note should be considered new until.
- Marking expired notes and providing a date selection for when the note should be considered expired. In addition, notes can be marked as being useable after the expiry date.
- Marking notes as being effective for use after a effecitive date or effective fiscal period.
- New menu options are included in the firm note library to view all tagged notes by new, expired, or effective date.
- At the engagement level, the financial statement document has a new menu option Document | Content Management. This menu includes the Check for Updates as well as several new options:
- Highlight Out of Date – Content that has a newer version available in the knowledge libraries is outlined with green brackets.
- Highlight Expired Notes - Expired notes in the existing financial statement is outlined with a red box.
- Clear Highlighting - clears the highlights from the content for out of date formats or expired notes to the financial statements.
- Browse New Notes… - opens a Knowledge Library Index Preview that displays all note content marked as new. This view is an overview only and notes cannot be inserted directly from this area.
- Browse Expired Notes - opens a Knowledge Library Index Preview that displays all note content marked as expired.
- Browse Effective After Notes - opens a Knowledge Library Index Preview that displays all note content marked as effective after a date or fiscal period.
- An additional level has been added to the notes knowledge library index for subtopics. There is no content associated with this new level in the financial statements; it is only for organizational purposes of the content. This additional level assists users in locating a specific note to insert in the engagement. The use of the fourth level is optional and can be controlled in Firm financial options (Document CL) under General Settings | Notes. Existing notes are sorted to take advantage of this additional KLI level. Note that a firm may choose not to use it.
- A new option is added to the notes sorting dialog in the firm notes library that lets notes be moved from one subtopic to another. Note that you can move items created by the firm.
- Notes created for your country specific template may or may not have the feature enabled – check with your template distributor in your jurisdiction.
- Financial statements and notes can now be based on an alternate grouping instead of just on mapping. The choice for grouping is found in the Financial statement options (Document ER) under Settings | General | Financials settings | Statements, notes, and reports.
- The cash flows worksheet (Document 5E) can use a grouping different than the one chosen for the financial statements. The grouping for the cash flows worksheet can be set in document 5E using the Options | Groupings menu.
- Firms have the option to:
- lock the grouping choice in the Firm financial options document (Document CL).
- disable the use of grouping options at the engagement level in financial statement options (Document ER).
- Groupings can now also be selected on a per-table or per-line basis in each statement or note using the Section and Line menus. You can select from alternate groups where the data is pulled from within a statement, schedule or note.
- If a table or line is set to use a grouping other than the default, the map/group number cells are shaded. The colour shading helps to identify that an alternative grouping is used. Note that different colours are used when the entire table is selected versus an individual line.
- Foreign exchange settings from Working Papers can now be applied to CaseWare® Financials. The foreign exchange option is set at the engagement level under Financial Statement Options| Financials settings| Statements, notes and reports.
- A new named underline type is added - “Single (Heavy)”.
- Firms can now lock additional underline options including the underline type and default colour.
- Previous versions used a concept of a top, middle, and bottom underline on each table heading. The current version drops the idea of a middle border by treating each line in the table heading individually as opposed to viewing all the lines in the heading as one line item. Firms options for table heading borders include:
- Default (leave headings as they currently exist in the library)
- Top/Bottom - (which exists currently)
- Top only
- Bottom only
- None
- At the engagement level, certain rows in a table heading can be underlined just as a data line in the body of the table is; this will replace the “middle” functionality that previously existed. Certain lines in the heading are now regarded as an indiviudal line rather than viewing the heading as one underline item.
- A new option to turn off the "automatic indenting" of notes and always use the indents as defined in the styles and tables.
- Finer control of the left align of tables including:
- individual control for each of the following areas in the financial statements – Accounting Polcies, Notes and Reporting by Directors areas.
- options to have the left alignment of the table follow the alignment of:
- a paragraphs with a particular style (e.g. Nt Text, Nt Text Level1, RD Text);
- the page left margin (0 cm indent), or ;
- the note heading.
- Menu item added under Options to refresh the note indentation. Changes to any indention options must be reloaded using the refresh option as any changes are not updated automatically.
- The default spacing between columns can now be set globally. This allows the amount of white space between the columns to be set by the firm as a standard.
- The option to underline the space between columns has an additional option to define how spaces in the headings should be displayed independent of the body of the table. There are three options related to underlining space betwewen column headings:
- No underline space between columns, including heading
- No underline space between columns, excluding heading
- Underline space between columns
- Select an item from the dialog only dialog results in all of the paragraphs within the selected cell to skip print. This can be used to supress one particular cell or area in a column from printing. Individual columns in any table row can be marked to display only. For example, if you do not want to print one percentage subtotal but wanted to disply the numeric subtotal column you could mark the percentage column to “display only”.
- If a cell is set for display only, an indicator appears when you right click on it. Selecting the Display Only option will reset the cell to print normally.
- This function is available from the Line menu and the right-click menu on individual lines.
- The Styles and Formatting dialog is redesigned for easier navigation.
- New options are added in the styles and formatting dialog to:
- format only a seleted line in a table.
- formatting footers
- Additional styles are available that can be modified and applied by the firm or at the engagement level as needed. These styles are not currently used anywhere in the existing content and can be used where an additional style is needed. These new styles are identified with either a “2” in the name (e.g. CP2 are additional cover page styles) or UDF (“user-defined”) in the style name. The new styles can be displayed and modified in the Style Sheet Preview document and include styles for:
- Cover Page
- Table of Contents
- Reporting by Directors
- Statement by Directors
- Headers and Footers
- The dialog has been redesigned to use a tabbed interface with the following enhancements:
- General
- In addition to the table width, the available page width (or column width if using a 2-column layout) is displayed at the top of the dialog.
- Multiple columns can now be selected and modified at once in the dialog (e.g. select the Parent – 2007 and Parent - 2006 columns and change the width on both columns at once).
- Column Size Tab
- The column width and the space between columns are set to respect CaseView’s built in constraint that a column must be at least left side + right side + 0.10 inches wide. These contraints are now set as a minimum value when setting the size options.
- There is a new option to have any shading not apply to the column heading.
- Column Format Tab
- New options are available to set the internal horizontal and vertical alignment of cells in a column. The previous alignment feature adjusted the paragraph alignment within a table row or column, whereas the new feature sets the alignment of content within individual cells.
- Border Options Tab
- New options to add vertical and horizontal borders to columns. This tab has options to set borders on the column heading independent of the borders on the column body. This feature allows you to place a border around any column.
- Changes to note number appearance can now be set for all note references within a statement. This can be set in an option in the note number appearance dialog.
- Note number references can now be added to title, total, and subtotal lines using the Line Properties dialog.
- An option is added to the Print Options dialog in the Financial Statements document (Document FSCDN) to regenerate the note headings for subsequent pages (i.e. regenerate the carry forwards for the note headings). Currently, some changes that are made to the note headings are not automatically reflected in the carry forward shown on subsequent pages (e.g. entering text outside of the input cell). There are new menu options under Options to refresh the note headings for all carry forwards for the document.
- Options are added into Firm financial options (Document CL) under Logos and in Financial statement options (Document ER) under General | Financials settings | Statements, notes and reports, to select the firm and entity logos. Selections made in these areas only affect picture object using the original default logo paths. Picture objects that have had their path calculations changes will not be affected.
- Four input cells are provided in Firm Financial options (Document CL), under General Settings, that let the firm add additional items into the drop down list of options for “Include text in front of date”.
- You can now specify how text will appear in the date area of the statement headings. For example, users can change the “ – “ in January 01, 2008 – December 31, 2008 to “ to the period ended “, giving January 01, 2008 to the period ended December 31, 2008.
- CaseView has introduced a concept of ownership when a table is created using the CaseView Table menu. If a user creates a new table in Enable Editing mode using CaseView’s Table menu, document and section security settings no longer prevent them from editing their table. This was introduced in response to requests for a way to let users create their own tables.
- Currently the firm library content is exempt from certain formatting options set in the engagement options (Document ER). For example, settings for note headings and underlines. An option is added to the firm financial options so firms can elect to have all of the automatic formatting options applied to their firm library content.
- Additional security permissions are granted in the firm libraries. Changes include additional permissions in the statement heading and statement text areas
- Option to highlight rows marked as linkage sources and linkage targets across the firm statement libraries.
- Cash flow items that have zero balances can now be hidden by using the menu option Document | Active Items Only. This results in only the items that are currently used in a particular engagement to be displayed while still retaining a complete firm list of possible cash flow disclosure items. The complete list can be easily displayed and reviewed for whether any additional items are applicable to the particular engagement.
- The on-line help system is moved to the same platform as the CaseWare help. This allows for cross-linkage to existing CaseWare and CaseView help where further information on the general functionality may be beneficial to the user.
- On line help is updated and reorganized in many areas.
- The new on-line help system has a detailed index to help locate the various topics.
- Training material and guides are updated to cover all new enhancements.
- We are pleased to introduce a new help tool. Please click on the QuickVids tab on this page. The QuickVids demonstrate, in video format, many of the features found in CaseWare® Financials. They are a great tool to get you started and help you take advantage of many of the powerful features in CaseWare® Financials.
Note that changes to the table heading borders will only be reflected in any new content the firm adds. Existing content is not adjusted.
